Artist Statement:

Create is an essential verb that has guided me thus far; growing up with encouragement to integrate passion into all aspects of life, creativity was an outlet that individualized me as an artist. This quality has challenged me to recognize my artistic attributes as well as establish myself and utilize resources as a designer. How does an individual use this quality to their advantage without adequate discipline within the field of design?

She creates.

She makes with her hands and she learns through critiques, challenges and failures which ultimately lead to success.

Competition has helped me to recognize my boundaries and, as a result, has given me the ability to exceed these limitations and grow as an artist and designer. While success ensures confidence, the countless steps that build self-assurance are far more important. It is hard for me to feel complete until I have a feasible product that indicates the original vision; this transition from idea to artifact can sometimes be very long and monotonous. These trials make up my design process and, consequently, define the designer I have become.

I strive to produce unique creations that do not evolve from natural engagements while I am particularly infatuated by manipulating materials in ways that they are not intended to be used. I often find myself capturing intriguing textures and detailed qualities that seem to have endless possibilities when applied to surface whether through an intricate pattern or unique composition. My studio experiences thus far have guided me to set a standard for my personal expectations that include always being practical with myself when committing, staying true to my individual aesthetics and never limiting myself in terms of experimenting and research.

Solutions in design are infinite but there is only one answer to the question that I find to be the foundation of the designer that I strive to become: how can one be so passionately motivated in order to bring the unordinary to life?

She creates.
